Itinerary

Depart from Dar es Salaam and travel toward Nyerere National Park, beginning your Southern Tanzania adventure.
Pass through rural communities, farmland, woodland, and changing landscapes before reaching the Nyerere area.
Depending on your arrival time, enjoy lunch and an introductory afternoon game drive.
Possible wildlife includes elephants, giraffes, buffaloes, zebras, antelopes, lions, hippos, and many bird species.
Later, continue to your lodge or tented camp for dinner and overnight.

After breakfast, begin a full day exploring Nyerere National Park.
Drive through woodland, open plains, lake systems, and riverine habitats while searching for elephants, giraffes, buffaloes, zebras, wildebeest, lions, hyenas, impalas, and other wildlife.
Nyerere is also an important habitat for African wild dogs, although sightings depend on their natural movements and cannot be guaranteed.
Enjoy lunch during the safari before continuing your afternoon game drive.
Return to your lodge or camp in the evening.

Begin the morning with breakfast followed by a boat safari along the Rufiji River or connected waterways, depending on your lodge location and operating arrangements.
Travel quietly along the water while looking for hippos, crocodiles, kingfishers, fish eagles, herons, and other waterbirds.
Elephants, antelopes, monkeys, and other animals may also be seen near the riverbanks.
After the boat safari, begin the overland journey toward the Udzungwa Mountains region.
This is a longer travel day through rural Southern Tanzania, but the scenery changes significantly as you approach the greener Kilombero Valley and Udzungwa foothills.

After breakfast, meet your local hiking guide and enter Udzungwa Mountains National Park.
Begin the hike through tropical forest toward Sanje Waterfalls, one of the most beautiful hiking attractions in Southern Tanzania.
Walk beneath the forest canopy while learning about plants, birds, insects, butterflies, and the unique ecology of the Udzungwa Mountains.
The forest supports several primate species, including the Udzungwa red colobus, although wildlife sightings depend on natural movements.
Continue uphill toward scenic viewpoints overlooking the Kilombero Valley before reaching the waterfall area.
Enjoy time near Sanje Waterfalls before beginning the descent through the forest.

After breakfast, depart the Udzungwa area and begin the journey toward Ruaha National Park.
Travel through the Kilombero region, Southern Highlands, farmland, rural communities, and the Iringa area before continuing toward Ruaha.
The landscape gradually changes from lush mountains to drier woodland and baobab country.
Depending on your arrival time, enjoy wildlife viewing while entering Ruaha or on the way to your lodge.

After breakfast, begin a full day of wildlife viewing in Ruaha National Park.
Explore areas around the Great Ruaha River, seasonal watercourses, open plains, rocky hills, and impressive baobab woodland.
Possible wildlife includes elephants, giraffes, buffaloes, zebras, greater kudu, impalas, lions, leopards, cheetahs, hyenas, jackals, and numerous bird species.
Ruaha is especially attractive for travelers looking for remote wilderness and predator viewing with fewer safari vehicles.
Enjoy lunch during the safari before continuing your afternoon game drive.

Enjoy another day exploring Ruaha, allowing more time to follow wildlife movements and visit different sections of the park.
Morning wildlife viewing may offer opportunities to search for predators before temperatures rise.
Explore the Great Ruaha River ecosystem and surrounding plains, where elephants, buffaloes, giraffes, antelopes, and other wildlife may gather depending on seasonal conditions.
Continue the safari during the afternoon before returning to your lodge for your final evening in the wilderness.

Enjoy breakfast followed by a final short wildlife experience depending on your flight schedule.
Transfer to the Ruaha airstrip for your scheduled flight back to Dar es Salaam.
Enjoy aerial views across Southern Tanzania before arriving in the city.
Continue to your hotel, international flight, or Zanzibar extension according to your travel arrangements.
